A group of visitors going to the stallion barns on the Secretariat’s Meadow Tour. This is where the narrator tells them about “First Landing’s Motel.”
Any book signings in Charlottesville, VA?
Yes we hope to set up something at New Dominion and the Barnes & Nobles for Nov-Dec. Thanks!
Just started reading “Secretariat’s Meadow” this past week-end. WOW !
You have brought to life a history of your family and all those connected to the land called Virginia. It’s like you’ve weaved a tapestry of a proud people, ambitious, industrious, hard-working along with their dreams and aspirations all coming together to produce its greatest son, a horse named Secretariat.
Thank you very much for your praise! That is very much what we tried to do. We are glad you like the book!
We have a renewed interest in your wonderful horse…my dad was a real follower and now deceased, so we watch and think of him. We saw the movie and read the book…just watched another great one, Zenyatta lose a heartbreaking race. I just love all of the connections and bloodline…book is so good. Thank you for telling the story of a great horse.
Thank you for reading our book! We are very glad to see the renewed interest in Secretariat, thanks to the Disney movie as well. And Zenyatta will always be a great champion!
Saw the movie today and totally enjoyed it! My grandmother was Elizabeth Chenery and cousin of Christopher. I missed an opportunity to visit the the Meadows in the late 1950s-60s due to a family illness but followed Secretariat and remember distinctly his triple crown performance especially the awesome Belmont race.I also remember First Landing, another Meadows horse and Kentucky Derby winner.
Is Kate planning any book signings in NC. I live in Greensboro and would love to get to one if she is going to be in this area
Thank you for your message. We don’t have any book signings in NC planned yet but are working on our schedule for 2011. Will continue to post new events here and on our Facebook page and website. Thanks!
Could LeeAnne or Kate please reply? Requesting a signed book for auction item for DERBY event in Memphis, TN on April 30, 2011. Fed Ex Pilots’ Wives Assoc. is hosting annual fundraiser to benefit kids and families of Ronald McDonald House and Fed Ex Family House (free lodging for patients of St. Jude and LeBonheur) Our derby theme would rock if we had a signed copy of “Secretariat’s Meadow”!
Thanks, Donna Scearce, 2VP FEPWA— http://www.fepwa.com. Please let us know! Much thanks!!!!
i kinow I don’t live in typical horse country, but there are horse lovers in the northeast too. I sent for my copy of Secretariats Meadow yesterday. Would love to have it signed at some point.
Do you forsee any signings in my neck of the woods…western New York State?
Sharon, we are still filling in our book tour schedule. We will probably come back to Saratoga this year. Not sure what else may be on tap in New York.
If you are ever 160 miles north of Sacramento, CA, come visit Safe Haven Horse Rescue (founded by Linda Richards in 1995 and run entirely by unpaid volunteers in Cottonwood, CA). We have TWO descendants of Secretariat – Excessorized (Cessie, great great granddaughter born 2005) and And Lock the Door (Andy, grandson born 1990) and you can meet them in person!
Thanks, Diane. We will keep that in mind!
Hi! I just found out that the March 31st Secretariat annual birthday has been moved to Randolph-Macon College. Is it still possible to visit Secretariat’s foaling shed, paddock, and stall at Doswell?
Sorry, but you cannot get on the property as all the gates are padlocked. The foaling shed and other historic barns are located well off the road. We very much hope that we will be able to return to The Meadow for next year’s birthday event.
Oh, that’s so sad. I’m so sorry to hear that. I hope that the Meadow is being considered for the National Registry of Historic Places? If so, where do I sign? 🙂
